Trip to Monterey, California - Part 1

We just got back from a fun trip to Monterey, CA! Ryan's sister Hayley graduated from CSUMB. We are so proud of her! First thing we met up with Hayley and she walked us through Fisherman's Wharf and to a little beach below. Sea lions were hunting just 30-40 feet off the beach which was so fun to spot them come up for air.

On Friday we had a free day and decided to drive down Hwy 1 to Pfieffer Beach...but I didn't check the state's website and we found out everything south of the Big Sur Lodge was closed due to damage from wild fires, flash flooding and landslides. We also found out after we got home that the day after we drove Hwy 1 they had the largest landslide in history for that area over the road! Thankfully it was in an area that was closed already and no one was hurt.

This is the Bixby Bridge on Hwy 1. The pull-offs directly adjacent to it get really crowded, but this one just down the road was perfect.

Next time we're back I really want to drive out to see this lighthouse. They had a drop in time window the next day, but we couldn't come back.

Whether you say "fun-guy" or "fun-gee", I think we can all appreciate this shelf mushroom.

The boys loved this shallow river. They could see the roots of the trees on the perimeter running into the river bed.

This bridge freaked the kids out a little because the grating has holes about 2"x3" and seeing all the way to the river below was a bit much. But they were super brave and walked all the way across and back with Daddy.

I promised the boys beach! So after trekking around the Big Sur Lodge we headed back towards Monterey, stopping in Carmel-by-the-Sea to camp out at their gorgeous beach.
