Trip to Monterey, California - Part 3

On our departing day we decided to squeeze in one more local gem, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. It's considered the "crown jewel" of the California State Park System and after 5 minutes inside we already committed to coming back in the future and devoting an entire day to this beautiful place. There were so many varieties of marine mammals, birds and small mammals to be seen. But we had two firm rules with the kids here: do not touch any plant and hold hands at all times (including no pulling or messing around). There is quite a bit of poison oak, but they keep the trails trimmed back well. On some of the popular viewing areas with cliff drop offs there were wooden railings, but otherwise the cliffs were lined with metal poles and a single rope.
The wildflowers were in full bloom.
This is the Sea Lion Point trail loop.
This rock is covered with seals and sea lions. They were so loud!

Here begins the Cypress Grove Trail which goes through the Allan Memorial Grove.

A couple points at the peak of the trail were a little slower going for safety with the kids, but they listened well and the views were a huge pay off.

We didn't have time that morning to do all of the trails (and there are a lot to explore!) but on our way out we drove by Whaler's Cove.
Here is a historic whaler cabin.
A perfect ending to the trip before heading back up to the airport was breakfast crepes with Grandpa Greg and Aunt Hayley :)
